This month, we're thrilled to introduce two new smart home "kits" --- each containing multiple smart home devices.

  • Smart Motion Kit: detects and alerts you to unexpected movement and activity around your doors and windows
  • Smart Leak Sensor Kit: detects and alerts you to potential water leaks sooner to help you avoid home flooding

Read on to meet these all-new kits and to learn how they --- along with our Indoor SmartCam and Garage Door Sensor --- can help you proactively protect your home and everything in it.

Smart Motion Kit

What it is and how it works

The Smart Motion Kit detects and alerts you to unexpected movement and activity around your doors and windows. The kit contains two Smart Contact Sensors, one Smart Motion Sensor, and one SmartBridge Dongle.

The Motion Sensor detects movement of objects with a heat signature (i.e. people and pets) within a 120° field of view. The Contact Sensors detect if a door or window is opened or closed. And the SmartBridge connects both sensors to your SmartCam, which begins recording and sends you a push notification in the event of unexpected motion and door/window activity.

Why we love it (and you will too)

Reason #1: The Smart Motion Kit sensors are extremely versatile

There are a variety of ways you can use the Motion Sensor and Contact Sensors included in the Smart Motion Kit. Here are just a few:

Motion Sensor: keep an eye on your home's entry points

The Motion Sensor is a discreet, wireless device that can be securely positioned with included adhesive pads. It can be placed in most areas of your home, providing additional motion coverage that might be missed by your SmartCam's view. You can place your Motion Sensor in your front hall, aimed at the door, to monitor comings and goings when you're not home.

... or your child's room

You can also set up your Motion Sensor in your child's room and activate it post-bedtime. That way, you'll receive a push notification if the baby is up and fussing or the toddler is trying to escape their room (for the third time this week). With Motion Sensor on the case --- you'll know right away.

Contact Sensor: monitor your doors or windows

Because the Contact Sensors are so compact, they can be placed in a variety of positions. We recommend attaching them (via the included adhesive strips) to your doors and windows so that you'll be notified if these are opened, closed, or left open.

... or your pantry

Another (creative) way to use the Contact Sensors? Place one on your pantry to keep your kiddos from sneaking pre or post-dinner snacks. (Finally catch that late-night chocolate thief!)

If you have an elderly parent that needs a little more care in order to live at home, placing Contact Sensors on their pantry, refrigerator, or even medicine cabinet is one way to make sure they're following their health regimen, eating frequently enough throughout the day and taking their medication. (For more on how smart home technology can help you care for elderly loved ones, click here.)

Reason #2: The Motion Sensor heat signature feature reduces "false alarms"

One cool thing about the Motion Sensor? It only detects the movement of objects with a heat signature (i.e. people and pets). That means that you'll receive a push notification if someone walks through your house when you're not home, or (somewhat less concerning) if your dog breaks free from their crate again. But you won't receive a notification if a pen rolls off the kitchen table or your houseplant drops a leaf. (Nobody likes a false alarm.)

Reason #3: Easy setup + (virtually) no maintenance

See a trend here? Like the Smart Leak Sensor Kit, the Smart Motion Kit is a breeze to install. If you've already downloaded the Hedge App, signed into your account, and set up your SmartCam, all you'll need to do is to plug the SmartBridge into the SmartCam, open the app, click the "+" icon, tap the Motion Sensor icon or Contact Sensor icon, and follow the simple in-app instructions.

And once you set up your new kit --- you're good to go: all the "maintenance" you'll need to perform is a quick battery change every 18 months.

Smart Leak Sensor Kit

What it is and how it works

The Smart Leak Sensor Kit detects and alerts you to potential water leaks sooner to help you avoid home flooding. It contains three Smart Leak Sensors and one SmartBridge Dongle.

The Leak Sensors monitor for water levels reaching .5mm and for significant changes in humidity or temperature that could indicate a potential issue. The SmartBridge connects the Leak Sensors to your SmartCam, which sends you a push notification and activates the escalation pipeline in the event of a leak.

Why we love it (and you will too)

Reason #1: The kit includes not one, not two, but THREE battery-powered Leak Sensors

We understand how devastating home water damage can be, and we didn't think one Leak Sensor was enough to provide proactive home protection. So, we upped the ante and included three Leak Sensors in our Smart Leak Sensor Kit.

With three Leak Sensors,  you can cover multiple areas of your home that might be at risk of water damage. And because the Leak Sensors are battery-powered, you have a ton of flexibility when it comes to placement, and you don't need to worry about wires near water (shudder).

Here are a few spots we recommend placing your Leak Sensors:

  • Under washing machines, dishwashers, and refrigerators (if they have a water supply line)
  • Under sinks --- especially if the sink has had previous leaks, is old, and/or is in a place not regularly accessed
  • Behind bath panels in bathrooms
  • Near hot water tanks and sump pumps

And if three Leak Sensors isn't enough, we give you the option to purchase an additional Smart Leak Sensor Kit. You can either add an additional kit to your Base Package the first time you purchase from Hedge, or you can go back and purchase the kit on its own later on. We're all about options.

Reason #2: Double "alerts" facilitate quick action

The Leak Sensors work double-time to notify you of a potential water-related issue.

Each Smart Leak Sensor has four metal contact points running along the underside of the device. These contact points are highly tuned to detect the smallest amounts of moisture. Once triggered, they'll sound via a beeper. And at the same time --- they'll send a push notification to your Hedge App.

This means that whether you're home or away, you'll be immediately alerted to a potential issue, and can take action to prevent damage.

And in the event that you don't dismiss the push notification and signal to your Hedge system that "We're all good!" the escalation process will begin. Then, a series of notifications, texts, and calls will be made to you and other users on your account, followed by your emergency contact. (Clearly, we don't mess around when it comes to preventing water damage.)

Reason #3: Easy setup + (virtually) no maintenance

As with all of our smart home devices, setting up our Smart Leak Sensor Kit is fast and easy. Make sure you've downloaded the Hedge App, signed into your account, and set up your SmartCam.

Then, after you plug the SmartBridge into the SmartCam, open the app, click the "+" icon, tap the Leak Sensor icon, and follow the simple in-app instructions. Voilà.

As for maintenance? All you'll need to do is to replace the Leak Sensors' batteries once every 18 months.
